Please do add me to the list of people interested in the celebrations of Cranbourne's 300th year!

I attended between the years 1947-1957, plenty of good memories, plenty of fun. I guess the things we did in those days would not be acceptable now! Doing things like the 'conker season' and long slides the length of the playground during the winter. I was always the first in the open swimming pool at Bracknell when it was compulsory to start swimming on the 1st May (not heated!) For a school in those days it had the best facilities in the area and I look forward to seeing you all in December at the reunion!!

Please forward details on your 300th anniversary celebrations. My mother attended Cranbourne in the 20's/30's as did her sisters, my two older brothers were there in the 50's and Ashley and I were there in the 60's and y own children in the 80's. Timmy Empson how true your story about your mum's great dinners - and I too don't recall anyone bringing a packed lunch. Lovely to see messages from Jane Winch and Johnny Holland. I have very happy memories of Cranbourne and the excellent teaching staff Mr Crisfield, Mr Batt-Rawden, Mrs Sparks,Mrs Elliot and even Mrs Burns and her Sammy slipper - which my cousin Barry was very well acquainted with.

I have fond memories of the school from 1947 - 1957, some of my happy memories were the conker season and long slides in the playground in the winter time - another thing that springs to mind is ringing the bell on the school bus which disappeared at speed towards the "Fleur" without the bus conductor who was left stranded at the school so we had lots of fun and good times. I admired Mr Andrews and his staff who I kept on their toes for many years. When I left they said to me "Your future looks bleak" - Fortunately they were wrong. I have had a very successful life - look forward to seeing everybody at the re-union. I will easily be recognised in my bentley.

Could not resist the opportunity to pop over from Australia to attend the tercentenary & kill some old ghosts. We managed to find 16 from the class of 52/3 & had a wonderful evening at a pub in Woodside. Will attempt to post pictures & full report upon my return on the 15th July. In the mean time I am staying round the Ascot area & can be contacted on 0797 6835 294.Webmaster please include a ''spell check'' as this was not a strong point with me or my year. Regards Mike

I attended Cranbourne from about 1953. Have some good memories of good fun, playing in the field at the back, around the old elms trees. Remember Miss Smith and Mrs Slack in those early days. Miss Smith smelt so good (Veluty for Beauty, I think!) And I remember trying to avoid sports day events with Wendy Oakley - I never was very athletic! Sorry I couldn't make the Summer Fair, but would love to know about some of the other celebrations.

Great website, I was there around '78-'80, in the 3rd and 4th years. Strong memories of Mr Gillings reading from Bilbo Baggings? in the 3rd year. I remember names like Anthony Poucher, Ricky Curran, James Fenton, Daniel King, Samantha Hockley, Julie Tilbury, Antionette Koning?, Kim Pascall, Carrie-Anne Marshall?. Great days, always seemed to be sunny, I think I was in the local paper being caned by Mr Creech, all dressed in victorian clothes, no sure why! I also remember the hole in the girls changing room. going to try and come on Sunday 14th, see you there

Great web site, I was at Cranbourne around '78-'80, in the 3rd and 4th year. Great memories of Mr Gillings reading to us in the 3rd year- was it Bilbo Baggings? I remember Anthony Poucher?, Ricky Curran, Daniel King, James Fenton, Carrie-anne Marshall?, Sammantha Hockley, Julie Tilbury, Kim Pascall, Antionette Koning? I think I was on the front page of the local paper when we all dressed up in victorian clothes, being caned! Not for the first time as I remember. Think the Headmaster was Mr Creech? Anyway loads of great memories, and I remember the hole through to the girls changing room, happy days. Think it was always sunny too. going to try and make Sunday 14th, might see you there

Hi. I went to Cranbourne School from 1959 - 1965, my sister Marili, attended from 1954 - 1959, and my father from 1918 - 1927 approx. I have so very many happy memories of the school. My teachers were Miss Preedy, Miss Smith (who also taught my father forty years earlier), Mrs Burns, Mr Chrisfield, Mrs Slack, Miss Sparks, Mr Batt-Rawden (who had some beehives at the back of the canteen) the headmaster being Mr Andrews. I have a class photo from 1960 and I have a book awarded to my father whilst he was at the school in about 1921. I saw the report of the tricentennary in the Bracknell News (I still live in Windsor) on 12th March and would be very interested to hear of the planned events.
| Allan Murrell | 13 March 2009 20:01:47 |
This was my first, and only school (until college at 15). I attended from 1946, as did my brother John before me and Norman after me. I could not have been happier at any other school, the staff were brilliant and maintained good discipline, Mr Andrews was very good, very strict, but very fair, and approachable. Please keep me informed of any events where there would be a chance of meeting up with fellow ex pupils. Good luck with your celebration events.

| Tom McCutcheon | 12 January 2009 16:35:35 |
I attended the school from about 1957 until 1962/3ish. I remember Mr Batt Rawden, Miss Sparks, Miss Slack, Miss Smith, Mr Christerfield and Mr Andrews. My father was one of the dedicated fathers who physically built the school's first swimming pool. My sisters Sarah and Frances and brother Andrew all went to the school. I now live abroad but come back to Ascot often to see family. Would like to know more about the 300 year anniversary celebrations when they are known. Good chance to see anybody who may remember me.

I came to Ascot as an evacuee from London in February 1944 and Cranbourne School played a major role in making this perhaps the happiest time of my childhood. My memories of that time are the clearest of all of my school years; I remember so well my good teacher Mrs Slack, of whom my parents thought so highly, her colleagues, Miss Smith, Miss Barks, Mrs Turner and, of course our headmaster Mr Andrews, whose daughter I think, was also in my class. As from time to time I drive past the school, the memories return; I am glad to see that much remains the same; even the safety barriers by the entrance to the playground are still there, where I once stood, being fed biscuits by a group of paratroopers as they passed on their way to the D-Day landings.

I remember my first day at Cranbourne 1951 aged 5 years,It was many years ago but i seem to remember my first teacher was Mrs.White,I still remember taking part in school sports day held in a field behind the school.I visit Winkfield about once a year and always make a point of driving past my first school,I send my very best wishes to the youngsters who followed me.
| Janice Brown | 10 September 2008 23:38:30 |
I was there with Sue Berry back in the early 60s; Gwen Warner; Carol Chalmers (who is in Aussie now!); and quite a few others I remember the names of; Mr Christerfield I think was the teacher in the photo I have emailed to the school with this comment for you all to see and hopefully they can add to the site
| Stewart Ferris | 14 July 2008 14:59:11 |
Ahh memories. I see my brother Peter has already commented. In all I think there were all 4 Ferrises at the school at some point between 1972 and 1980. Stewart, David, Peter and Kirsty. Many fond memories indeed.
| Deborah Marriss Nee Dagnall | 23 June 2008 13:39:04 |
what a wonderful site, brings back so many wonderful memories of my time spent at cranbourne. I was there in 1979 and even to this day the memories i have are all pleasent ones. The teaching staff were so nice nice and I remember being part of the 100 years and taking part in all the activities and dressing up as victorians. Would be great to see photos if anyone has any of the centenary. If anyone remembers me drop me an email be great to hear from you.

| David Batt-Rawden | 19 December 2007 17:03:08 |
My Dad is John Batt-Rawden taught at Cranbourne and also built the first swimming pool at the school. Dad is 81 and still going strong. I went to the school around 1978 and so did my sister Brigid and my brother Mark and other sister Linda. Not sure whether Paul my other brother went to Cranbourne.
| Jenny Beaumont (nee Newman) | 16 November 2007 00:00:00 |
Just came across this site. It's good to see the school is still going strong. I was there from 1956-1962 and remember the swimming pool being built (is it still the same one?). Mr Batt-Rawden was my teacher for the last two years and he gave us lots of maths working out where the swimming pool was to go! Also remember Mr Andrews, Miss Sparkes, Mr Chrisfield, Mrs Heath, Mrs Slack and Miss Smith.

Great Site. I went to Cranbourne from 1957 - 1964, it was a great place. How about putting a photo gallery on here so that we can upload our school pics? Stuart from Southwell Primary, if you are reading this, how amazing...my family all went to Portland later on, and my brother and sisters attended Royal Manor school. Anybody from my old class is welcome to contact me smgantlett@yahoo.co.uk (Susan Berry as I was then!)

i drive past the school everyday on the way to work and alkways remember different things as i drive past - the dragon painted on the wall going into the girls loo just outside Mrs Loftings' old room, the wooden animals, 'it' on the yellow lines, following mrs allen around the playground when i was in yr2 as i was so scared of everyone!! o those were the days!!! but having left in '95 its changed a lot!!!
| Sarah Hak | 17 March 2007 00:00:00 |
Wow, blast from the past. I came across the website while just nostalgically looking up things from my past from the net. I left Cranbourne in 1993. The wooden animals are still there! My sister fell off the horse one and sprained her arm! Ahh the memories (possibly not the happiest memory to give).
| Jurgen Grant | 30 November 2006 00:00:00 |
Hello, Jurgen Grant here. Went to this School in the late 70's. Used to love the mince dinners, always had seconds. My fist love was laura, second Joanna and then Kate. Horst Ritter was a good mate and we were the only 2 Germans in the School. Just to let the Girls know, there was a hole in the back of the wooden changing rooms, so we could see you, when you were getting ready for swim class. Happy Days!!!!!

Cranbourne was my family school and I spent many happy years there in the 60's remembering well Miss Spakes, Miss Burns, Mr Andrews etc. Please could anyone help? I believe Miss Sparkes wrote a book on the history of Cranbourne school, which I would very much like to get a copy of. So if anyone can give me the title or even ISBN that would be great. holland@rapid-uk.demon.co.uk
